Saily eSIM Thailand Review 2026: 7 Excellent Reasons to Use It

Arriving in Thailand without mobile data can make the first hour of a trip harder than it needs to be.

You may need Google Maps, Grab, hotel directions or WhatsApp before you have even left the airport.

That is where a travel eSIM can be genuinely useful.

Instead of finding a SIM-card counter, handing over your passport and swapping a tiny piece of plastic, you can arrange your mobile data before leaving home.

In this Saily eSIM Thailand review, I have looked closely at the current plans, setup process, benefits and limitations.

Saily is easy to use and competitively priced, but it will not be the best choice for every traveller.

Quick verdict: Saily is a strong option for visitors who want affordable data ready soon after they land in Thailand.

The 5 GB and 10 GB plans look particularly useful for ordinary holidays, while heavy data users should compare the unlimited plan with local Thai SIM deals before buying.

What Is a Saily eSIM?

Saily is a travel eSIM service created by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN.

An eSIM is a digital SIM built into a compatible phone, so there is no physical card to insert or remove.

You choose a destination and data allowance, install the eSIM and then use it to connect to a supported mobile network in Thailand.

Your normal SIM can remain in your phone, which is useful if you still need to receive messages or security codes on your usual number.

Saily offers data plans in more than 200 destinations.

Once its eSIM is installed, you can add plans for other supported destinations without installing a completely new Saily eSIM each time.

How Much Does a Saily eSIM for Thailand Cost?

At the time of checking on 28 July 2026, the official Saily Thailand eSIM page displayed the following plans in euros:

Prices, currencies, plan extras and promotions can change.

Check the final amount and plan conditions at checkout rather than relying solely on the figures above.

For most visitors, I think the 5 GB or 10 GB plan offers the most sensible balance.

Five gigabytes should cover maps, messaging, browsing and moderate social-media use, while 10 GB gives you more breathing room for uploading photographs and watching some video.

The 1 GB plan is better suited to a very short visit or emergency backup.

It can disappear quickly if your phone starts backing up photos, downloading app updates or playing high-quality video.

How Does Saily Work in Thailand?

The process is fairly straightforward:

  1. Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked and supports eSIM technology.

  2. Choose a Thailand data plan through the Saily website or app.

  3. Install the Saily eSIM while you still have a reliable internet connection.

  4. Make sure the Saily line is enabled and follow the in-app instructions for data roaming.

  5. Select the Saily eSIM for mobile data when you arrive in Thailand.

Saily says the plan activates automatically when you reach the destination, provided the eSIM and required settings are enabled.

Its current terms also give plans a 30-day activation period, after which a plan may activate automatically even if it has not been used at the destination.

For that reason, I would not buy a plan months before travelling.

Purchasing and installing it a few days before departure is a safer and simpler approach.

Will My Phone Work With Saily?

Your phone must support eSIM technology and be unlocked from its mobile network.

Many recent iPhones, Google Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy models are compatible, but compatibility can vary by model and the country where the device was purchased.

Check your exact model using Saily’s current eSIM-compatible device list before paying.

Do not assume that every version of a familiar phone supports eSIM.

It is also wise to install the eSIM at home.

If anything goes wrong, you will still have reliable Wi-Fi and time to contact support before your flight.

What Coverage and Speeds Can You Expect?

Saily advertises 3G, 4G, LTE and 5G access in Thailand, depending on the available local network and your location.

It specifically promotes coverage in popular destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya.

Actual performance can still vary. Your speed will depend on the local network, congestion, signal strength, handset and whether you are indoors or travelling in a more remote part of Thailand.

No mobile service can guarantee perfect reception everywhere. Islands, mountainous areas, national parks and rural roads may have weaker coverage than central Bangkok or Phuket.

Saily also allows hotspot use without a stated tethering restriction on its Thailand plans.

That could be useful if you need to connect a laptop or share data with another device, although doing so may use your allowance rapidly.

The Main Advantages of Saily in Thailand

You Can Prepare It Before You Travel

The biggest benefit is convenience. You can purchase and install your Saily eSIM before the flight, reducing the need to visit a mobile counter immediately after landing.

That means you can open Grab, contact your accommodation or check a map as soon as the connection becomes active.

You Can Keep Your Normal SIM in Your Phone

An eSIM does not require you to remove your physical home SIM.

On a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can use Saily for data while retaining your normal line.

Be careful with your home SIM settings, though.

Turn off data roaming on that line so your usual provider does not generate an expensive roaming bill.

Plans Are Flexible and Affordable

The current Saily eSIM Thailand range runs from a small 1 GB allowance to unlimited options.

This makes it easier to pay for an amount that matches the length and style of your trip.

Top-ups can be purchased in the app if your original allowance runs out.

Saily also offers an automatic top-up option, but I would only enable that after checking and understanding the spending settings.

Hotspot Use Is Supported

Saily states that hotspot access is unrestricted on its Thailand plans.

This is useful for travellers who occasionally need to connect a tablet or laptop.

Remember that a laptop can burn through mobile data much faster than a phone, particularly when cloud backups and software updates are enabled.

It Includes Extra Security Tools

Saily includes features intended to block malicious websites, reduce trackers and advertisements, and change your virtual location.

These are useful additions, particularly when travelling, although they should not replace sensible online-security habits.

The Disadvantages to Consider

Your Phone Must Be Compatible and Unlocked

Saily is not a simple option if your handset does not support eSIM or is locked to your UK network. Checking compatibility before purchasing is essential.

A Data Plan Is Not the Same as a Thai Mobile Number

The core Thailand plans are primarily designed for mobile data.

WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime and similar internet-based services should work, but a standard data plan does not automatically give you a local Thai number.

Saily now offers optional phone-number, call and text products, but you should check their availability, number type and separate charges.

A physical Thai tourist SIM may still be more convenient if ordinary local calls are important to you.

Local Thai SIMs May Offer More Data

AIS, True and dtac sell tourist packages in Thailand, often with large or unlimited allowances.

Travellers who stream heavily, work remotely or stay for several weeks should compare those packages with Saily’s unlimited option.

The trade-off is convenience. A local SIM may offer more data for the money, while Saily lets you arrange the connection before arrival and keep your usual SIM in place.

Refunds Become Less Certain After Activation

Saily’s refund guidance says a full refund may be requested within 30 days when the eSIM has not been installed or the data plan has not been activated.

Once a plan has activated or data has been used, a full refund is not guaranteed.

If the service fails, contact support promptly and avoid using more data while the issue is investigated.

Saily advertises 24/7 assistance through live chat in its app and by email.

Saily eSIM or a Thai Tourist SIM?

A Saily eSIM is likely to suit you if you:

  • Want mobile data without queuing at an airport counter

  • Have an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone

  • Mainly need maps, Grab, messaging and general browsing

  • Want to keep your normal SIM in the phone

  • Prefer to organise everything before travelling

A physical Thai tourist SIM may suit you better if you:

  • Need a Thai mobile number for ordinary calls

  • Expect to use a very large amount of data

  • Are staying in Thailand for an extended period

  • Have a phone that does not support eSIM

  • Prefer help from staff in a local mobile shop

Neither option is automatically best. For a normal holiday, convenience often matters more than squeezing every last gigabyte from the price.

Which Saily Thailand Plan Should You Choose?

A Weekend or Short Stopover?

The 1 GB, seven-day plan may be enough for maps, ride bookings and messaging. Disable automatic photo backups, app updates and video autoplay to make it last.

A One or Two-Week Holiday?

I would look first at the 5 GB or 10 GB plan. The better option depends on how often you watch videos, upload content or share data with other devices.

A Longer Trip or Heavy Usage?

Consider the 20 GB or unlimited options. Before paying, compare the exact unlimited-plan conditions and duration with the latest tourist offers from Thai networks.

Visiting Several Asian Countries?

Saily also offers an Asia and Oceania regional plan. This may be more convenient than buying separate country plans if Thailand is one stop on a wider trip, but check that every destination on your itinerary is included.

My Verdict: Is Saily Worth It for Thailand?

For many holidaymakers, yes. Saily combines low entry prices, simple app-based management and the convenience of preparing your data before arrival.

The 5 GB and 10 GB plans appear to be the sweet spot for an ordinary Thailand trip.

They should give most travellers enough data for navigation, transport apps, restaurant searches, messages and moderate social-media use without paying for an unlimited allowance they may not need.

Saily is less compelling if you need a local Thai number, consume huge quantities of data or have an incompatible phone. In those situations, a tourist SIM from a Thai network may provide a better fit.

My advice is simple: check your device, estimate your likely data use and compare the current checkout price before buying.

If convenience is your priority, Saily is one of the more straightforward ways to get connected in Thailand.

Does Saily work in Thailand?

Yes. Saily currently sells prepaid Thailand eSIM plans ranging from 1 GB to unlimited data and advertises access across popular destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya.

When should I install my Saily eSIM?

Install it before travelling while you have dependable Wi-Fi, ideally a few days before departure. Plans have a 30-day activation window, so avoid purchasing too far in advance.

Can I use WhatsApp with a Saily eSIM?

Yes. WhatsApp and other internet-based calling and messaging apps can use the Saily data connection. Your existing WhatsApp account normally remains associated with its current number.

Can I keep my UK phone number?

You can normally keep your home SIM installed and use Saily for mobile data on a compatible dual-SIM phone. Turn off data roaming for your UK line to reduce the risk of roaming charges.

Does Saily give me a Thai phone number?

The standard data plan does not automatically provide a Thai number. Saily offers separate phone-number, call and text options, but you should check exactly what number and coverage are supplied before purchasing.

Can I share my Saily data using a hotspot?

Saily currently states that hotspot use is available without restrictions on its Thailand plans. Your phone must support hotspot sharing, and connected devices will use data from your allowance.

What happens if I run out of data?

You can buy another plan or top up through the Saily app. Saily says the additional plan can activate once the original allowance has been used.

Can I get a refund?

Saily says a full refund may be requested within 30 days if the eSIM has not been installed or the data plan has not activated. Refunds after activation or data use are not guaranteed and are considered under its current refund policy.
